Article body A price is a ratio even when the shelf label presents it as a single number. The missing half is quantity. Gramwise gives that denominator a visible place in the comparison, because two attractive sticker prices can tell very different stories once pack size and count are included.
Normalization is useful precisely because it changes the question. Instead of asking which bag has the smaller label, the reader can ask what one matching unit costs. But normalization is not permission to erase meaningful differences. Different product identities, currencies or incompatible measures cannot be quietly forced into one convenient ranking.
Traceability is therefore part of the interface, not an advanced feature reserved for experts. A surprising result should lead back to the saved receipt line. If an input is wrong, the source should be available to inspect rather than hidden behind a confident chart. The strongest visual comparison is still only as good as the rows that support it.
Gramwise also keeps interpretation separate from arithmetic. A repeated purchase may deserve a cupboard check, but it does not prove waste. A lower unit price may matter, but it does not decide which quantity a household needs. The instrument can make the measure clearer while leaving the decision with the person who understands the home. That is a more useful kind of precision than pretending every number is a recommendation.
